Biography

Francesco Witte studied Energy and Environmental Management and then Systems Engineering at Flensburg University of Applied Sciences between 2011 and 2016. During his Bachelor's and Master's studies, he worked as an intern and student trainee at Stadtwerke Flensburg GmbH, where he assisted in the construction and commissioning of the new combined cycle plant "Kessel 12". In this context, he also wrote his Bachelor's thesis on the topic of "Development of a marginal cost model for the Flensburg CHP plant". In his master's thesis, he investigated the use of power-to-gas plants for the utilisation of energy from wind power plants or with waste heat utilisation in heat supply systems, among other things.

Since October 2016, Francesco Witte has been working as a research assistant on the conception and development of the open source software TESPy for the design and simulation of thermal plants, which is used in the ANGUS II research project for the simulation of coupled plant-geostorage operation. As part of the ANGUS II project, he was responsible for the development of a software interface between the plant and geostorage model as well as the creation of different plant concepts for compressed air and heat storage. TESPy is also used in other projects, e.g. QUAREE 100, ENaQ und IDEAS 2020. In teaching, Mr Witte is active in the university's bachelor's degree programmes for thermodynamics.
